Signs, Symbols, and Working From What You Know.

This lovely image and/or rainbow jumped off the computer monitor this morning. I was sorting and working on putting a slide show together on a totally different subject.

However, this sun through a medieval stained glass window on the stone floor of the Church of Saint Père-sous-Vézelay, in Morvan, Burgundy in France flashed up as a hopeful omen.

We, as artists, do in fact work from and with what we know. This advice is given to every would be writer, work from what you know.

This reminds me that knowing is a very diffuse and diverse sort of thing. Not all knowing is fact or proof; sometimes it's odd little messages from the ozone. We have to trust our own knowing.

\0/ \0/ \0/ \0/ Almost Done

I thought since the Spider is working so hard behind the scenes and I've been working so much at my desk, it was time to begin showing you some of the images I brought from Alsace. Liepvre was a villiage that grew in the nineteenth century as the silver mines brought work. Now, the Val d'Argent is better known for the Carrefour du Patchwork.

My friend, Marion, and I went walking on the back streets away from the tour buses. One of the things we saw was this Datura. I am quite surprised that an area that gets three metres of snow in the winter can still support a semi tender plant. I saw banana trees in the same town but did not have my camera at hand on that walk.

Medieval Ribeauvillé is a lovely place to walk, particularly when you bypass the most popular tourist clogged streets.

Moving host

rough seas ahead,
brace yourselves,
wish us luck,
full speeeeeeed.

Please send all email to my cox.net address as I might not receive it from thelmasmith.com

Update: The web host move is over, thanks for bearing with me. There were a few hiccups, but everything should work now (I hope so). If you see a problem, please send me an email with details.

Art, Light, Mountains, Travel, Art, Again

I mentioned, I think, that I talk to delightful people from here and there. One such person kindly gave me a comfortable bed in a small town near Annecy in Savoie near the lake right under the Alps. The image above is taken in the early morning.

The clouds in the morning play lovely tricks with light. Makes a person consider whether textiles, watercolors, or oils is the proper medium for expressing the magnificence.

As the day progresses the light keeps changing.

A friend of a friend, Martin Dwyer has more pictures of the same alps in differing lights. Scroll to the bottom of his blog page.

Will the Supervisor Stop Blogger From Eating Images? ? ?

This is becoming very frustrating. I have posted two images in my website via CyberDuck. We are going to see if going at this in a different way will let the images actually show. Wish me luck. The Spider put the images in Art, Light, Travel, Art, Again. Even with refreshing my net window I cannot see them. If you can, please let me know.

Whine

Blogger is being a PITA about loading images for the last two days. I'll try again tomorrow. I have a lot of interesting photos to show you. I might even say something interesting about art.
I am very fortunate in being able to talk to interesting people who are scattered here and there. Some of them I have been talking to for years.
